‘Future State: Legion of Super-Heroes #1’ (review)

Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Art by Riley Rossmo
Published by DC Comics

I was definitely skeptical coming in to read this book.

I haven’t really cared for the run of writer Brian Michael Bendis on the Legion. To be honest, I don’t feel that he has a good grasp on the characters and the universe.

So, it was with a lot of trepidation that I went into reading this book.

It is barely comprehensible.

Now it might just be me. But who knows?

The issue takes place on Planet Gotham. The Legion of Super-Heroes is no more and the United Planets are completely decimated!

Things aren’t looking too good.

We get to see Ultra Boy and we see him try to put the Legion back together.

That is about all that I understood with the issues there seemed to be some of fetish with making it seem like something huge had happened.

But I hardly cared.

And that is the biggest problem with this: I don’t care about the characters. We get to see where some of the characters ended up and it is completely dull and uninspired. Bendis tries to make it fun but it falls flat.

At least the art by Riley Rossmo is great. Rossmo is an incredible talent and this issue shows that he is only getting better.

Overall though, this just feels like another missed opportunity in a sea of missed opportunities.

RATING: C-
