CLiNT 2.0 Delivers Top-Notch Entertainment (review)

I’ve found amongst comic readers, you either love Mark Millar or you loathe him.

I’ve heard complaints of his constant self-promotion; that his ideas are obvious and that his work is gratuitous in a number of factors.

Thing is, I love Mark Millar and I’ve yet to be swayed.

I’ve followed his work regularly since Swamp Thing almost two decades ago and have read every story he’s written.  And in my mind, he’s always good, sometimes great, and on occasion, brilliant.

Among his talents is knowing how to hype himself.  Mark Millar might be the greatest salesman in comics after Stan Lee; and in my opinion, that’s not a bad thing.

He brings the fun back.  Every single time.

Which leads us to the relaunch of his magazine, CLiNT 2.0.

CLiNT  is essentially, a “Mark Millar magazine.”

Sure, there are other writers, but it’s Mark’s show.  If there’s someone else in there, it’s because Mark likes them and again, not a bad thing. 

You see, if you’re not a comic reader, you’ve already been affected by Mark. 

Seen Kick-Ass or Wanted?  Mark made them up. 

Enjoy The Avengers?  If it wasn’t for Mark’s work on The Ultimates, we would not be watching an Avengers film.

CLiNT 2.0 is an anthology magazine; a common product in England or Japan, but in the U.S., not so much.  But it should be, and Mark (with publisher Titan) have put together a handsome product that is not only a bargain, but does something important; entertains. 

It’s packed. 

From Secret Service

There are two complete full length comics both written by Mark (Secret Service #1 with art by Dave Gibbons and Super Crooks #1 with art by Lenil Francis Yu), two shorter comic stories (Death Sentence, about a STD that gives you superpowers before it kills you by Montynero and Mike Dowling and Rex Royd, the magazine’s weakest entry by British comedian Frankie Boyle and artist Mike Dowling). In addition, there are interviews and articles galore.

From Super Crooks

CLiNT 2.0 is a no-brainer, and since the magazine isn’t, or it least shouldn’t be “collectible”, (both Super Crooks and Secret Service have already been published individually as regular comics), it’s the prefect thing to read, and hand off to a friend to enjoy.

Next issue also features the first chapter of Hit-Girl, so that’s three full length comics for $6.99. Do the math, or better yet, don’t. Just pick this up and enjoy.
