JON M. CHU To Direct MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE

Looks like there might be a new franchise in town.

Jon M. Chu is in discussions with Sony to helm the live-action take on Masters of The Universe, based on the Mattel toy line.

Set on the planet Eternia, Masters of the Universe, or as fans refer to it MOTU, revolves around the conflict between He-Man and the evil Skeletor.  With a wide array of characters, many with unique abilities, MOTU might has the potential to merge Lord of The Rings with superheroes.

MOTU has appeared in various toylines, comics, animated series and a flop vehicle for Dolph Lundgren in 1987.

Chiu, who is currently converting his film G.I. Joe: Retaliation to 3D, and previously has directed and produced several dance-centric films and projects.

And purely spitballing here, but Chu has a good relationship with Channing Tatum who doesn’t have his own superhero series.

Yet.
