‘Bog Bodies’ OGN (review)

Written by Declan Shalvey
Art by Gavin Fullerton
Published by Image Comics

Who would have thought that artist Declan Shalvey would end up being a damn fine writer too? His previous book that he wrote, Savage Town, was quite excellent and this one follows suit. This is a well written graphic novel that works on quite a few levels.

This graphic novel follows an Irish gangster named Killian.

One day, Killian gets a knock at his door from a fellow gangster named Keano. Keano needs some help on a job. Killian agrees to help his friend.

What a nice guy, right?

Well, it seems that Keano is just setting his friend Killian up for a previously botched job of his. So Killian goes on the run in the mountains of Dublin. He has to avoid his fellow colleagues and try to keep safe.

This turns out to be harder than you might think here.

Killian meets a woman named Neev. She has been through something dark as well. Together, they try to survive. It is absolutely haunting what happens next. You have to read it to believe it. Shalvey writes a story of small time crime and it resonates like you wouldn’t believe.

The art by Fullerton is fantastic for this book. It is beautiful to look at and captures the story perfectly.

This is an excellent graphic novel and a hell of a good reading experience. The creative team did a top notch job here for sure.

RATING: A
