Over the past year, this book really has taken off. I have always loved the Batgirl character.
In writer Cecil Castellucci’s capable hands, we have gotten some great stories and some even greater character development. I have been enjoying this book very much.
Batgirl is being made a prisoner at the beginning of the issue.
She is talking to Dasha. Dasha tells Batgirl some of the history of why she is doing what she is doing. This part is actually pretty cool as it gives the villain of the story some strong motivation.
Dasha is turning some of the citizens of Gotham into gold statues. This is where the story takes a dark turn, and it is brutal to see the results of this story choice.
Castellucci doesn’t hold back and it is pretty damn strong.
After this, Batgirl gets free! Immediately Dasha tells the KGBeast to take Batgirl out! Then, an exciting fight scene happens. Batgirl tries to find out from the Beast why he shot Nightwing. It becomes very dramatic. It all leads to one hell of an ending for the issue.
The story has been fantastic. The artwork on this particular issue is by Carmine Di Giandomenico, who I feel is one of the most under appreciated artists in comics. He does a great job here as well. Overall, this was a pretty great issue in a constantly improving series.
