Well, it had to happen.
Bendis has brought his creation Naomi smack dab into the middle of one of his. I have to be completely honest, although I thought the Naomi solo series was okay, the choice to put her here feels terrible.
It is like they completely shoehorned her in.
The opening of this book has a first person look of Naomi coming to Metropolis and meeting up with the Man Of Steel. It feels completely lame. I was trying to not vomit at how “cutesy” it is written.
Naomi needs Superman’s help and the dialogue and the scenes that follow are slightly better. They’ve not great but they are certainly better than the opening of this book, that’s for sure.
Superman shows Naomi a few tricks with her powers and it is fairly okay.
That’s about the time Batman shows up. And his scene with Naomi is pretty much a groaner. Honestly, it doesn’t even feel like Batman at all. Just a guy in a suit spouting out Bendis-like dialogue. It’s about that time that you realize that there is no actual action in Action Comics thus far this month.
So that’s when the action happens. The Red Cloud attacks! Superman is rendered helpless! And now it looks like the only person who can save him is Naomi! I wish someone would same me from this lame turn of events.
And it is completely lame. The art by Szymon Kudranski is pretty damn good, but it can’t save the cliches that are just everywhere in this book. It gets tiresome reading something that is, in of itself, tiresome. Moving on.
