Phillip K. Johnson Continues His Amazing Superman Run With ‘Action Comics 2021 Annual #1’ (review)

Phillip Kennedy Johnson is writing some of the best Superman comic books in recent years. His stories are full of depth and character and I just love everything he brings to the stories that he is writing. His Superman is really a great natural progression for the characters.

This annual starts off by bringing by Future State’s House of El! I loved the mythology Johnson created there and it is great to see him expanding on it.

The House of El is faced with a threat that they never would have expected.

The House faces a threat from modern times.

We get to see that threat and the impact that it might have on everything. We also get to see how Clark Kent’s actions in modern times reverberate through the time periods.

We get to see how his legacy is affected.

There is a lot that happens in this issue.

But Kennedy makes it easily to digest. Brandon Kent is also a big focus of this annual.  He is the one to face off against the evil being in this issue. His choices and the way he goes about things may make the ultimate difference.

The script is quite excellent. I love the epic world building going on. The artwork by Siya Oum is equally impressive and really tells the story well.

I hope Kennedy works in the DC Universe for a long time to come. It’s been great.

RATING: A
