‘Mister Invincible’ GN (review)

Written and Illustrated by Pascal Jousselin
Published by Magnetic Press

This is a book is a humorous take on the traditional comic book. It is a humorous look at a different kind of superhero. This sort of book usually isn’t my thing. However, once I started digging in I found myself enjoying this book very much. It was a pretty pleasant time.

The book takes place in the fictional town of Grandview.

Grandview has everything a traditional town has. We then immediately get introduced to Mister Invincible. He is just a young superhero with some pretty nifty powers.

You see, his powers derive from actual comic books.

It is a pretty strange concept, but one that creator Pascal Jousselin puts to use very well.

We get to see that Mister Invincible can travel between the actual comic book panels. On top of that, he is the only character who KNOWS that he is in a comic strip.

The whole book is basically comprised of little stories about Mister Invincible, his villains, and the townspeople of Grandview. It is fun for sure but there isn’t much beyond the traditional set up for jokes, followed by a joke delivery. The premise started to grate on me before I was halfway through reading the book.

Even so, the overall story is very enjoyable and the artwork is fantastic. Pascal Jousselin does a great job designing these characters and his style is very likable. Overall, it is a decent book that will bring a smile to your face, as long as you don’t spend too much time thinking about it.

RATING: B+
