It takes just over two minutes to fall be both reminded how much I love Superman and also how his current reimagining is so unengaging in comparison.
This past weekend at NYCC, this short, which was produced by Warner Bros. Animation, in conjunction with DC Entertainment. and produced Man of Steel director Zack Snyder and animation guru Bruce Timm premiered. Utilizing both the musical cues of John Williams and Hans Zimmer, the short pays homage to a number of eras of the Man of Steel including film and television with moments focusing on Superman: The Movie, The Adventures of Superman television series, Smallville, The Super Friends, the Fleischer cartoons, Superman the Animated Series and the recent Man of Steel. Among the comics noted were the work of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Neal Adams, Jim Lee, Curt Swan, Mort Weisinger, Wayne Boring, Alex Ross, Mark Waid, Dan Jurgens, and more.
As the short wraps up, the armored Superman seems to be a different character altogether.
When in doubt, add shorts to the union suit.
After the jump check out the magnificent short.
A high resolution version of this animated short will be available on the Man of Steel Blu-ray Combo Pack, which will be distributed by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on November 12, 2013
