The New Yorker has an interesting article about what makes certain things go viral online.  Apparently, it’s a combination of several things including emotional tone and nostalgia that often propels articles found on Buzzfeed, Upworthy and Viralnova to be shared on social media, creating lots of traffic and as a result, lots of money.
