GARY OLDMAN To Create ROBOCOP

There’s another reason to get excited about the upcoming Robocop remake.
Gary Oldman has signed on.
That’s right.  One of the greatest living actors (and the top-grossing actor of all time) has joined one of the year’s most intriguing remakes.

Based on Paul Verhoven’s original film, which was written by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner, the new Robocop is being directed by The Elite Squad‘s José Padilha, based on a script by James Vanderbilt.

Both films are likely to share the same premise; “In a crime ridden city, a terminally wounded cop returns to the force as a powerful cyborg with submerged memories haunting him.”

According to THR, Oldman will portray a new character, “Norton, the scientist who creates Robocop (Joel Kinnaman ) and finds himself torn between the ideals of the machine trying to rediscover its humanity and the callous needs of a corporation.”

Production is expected to begin this September with a tentative release date of summer 2013.
