‘The Six Sidekicks of Trigger Keaton #1’ (review)

Written by Kyle Starks
Art by Chris Schweizer
Published by Image Comics

Kyle Starks is a creator that is unlike any other in the business. Anything that he creates, or has his hand in creating, I am there. He is only the writer on this book, but the book retains his distinct flavor of comic book storytelling.

The world’s most unlikeable action star is found murdered at the beginning of this book.

I automatically was hooked when I saw this beginning.

Starks does a great job of keying in to the tropes of action films and makes something truly unique. He does that here beautifully.

This action star had six television sidekicks.

They decide to band together to see about solving his murder. The scenes between them all are both funny and have some really amazing dialogue.

It isn’t long before they are on the path to solve this mystery.

They start finding it hard to get anyone to talk, mostly because this action star was so incredibly hated. This leads to some interesting moments and some funny ones as well. Starks clearly has a good handle on this story and he milks the concept completely.

The art by Chris Schweizer is truly great as well.

I love the direction this book is headed in. The sidekicks are now the stars of the show and none of them may survive.

This is a very different comic book, but I enjoyed it from the very first page!

RATING: A
