‘The Flash #762’ (review)

Written by Joshua Williamson
Art by Howard Porter
Published by DC Comics

Well, here it is.

The last issue of writer Joshua Williamson’s legendary run on this title. He has done a great job of giving Barry Allen a new lease on life.

Other writers have tried before him. They haven’t even come close to achieving what Williamson has done with this book. His writing will be sorely missed indeed.

The odds are stacked against Barry at the beginning of this issue.

He is tired. Beaten. He has fought against the Legion of Zoom. But he is still on his own two feet.

Now he has to face down his worst enemy and try to make sure his opponent never comes back.

It is the final race between Barry Allen and Eobard Thawne, otherwise known as the Reverse Flash. And race they do. This is everything. Barry comes to realize that the only way that he can defeat his enemy may be to put him down for good.

But can he do it?

To say much more would be to give it all away. But I will say this: this ended perfectly.

All of the various threads from Williamson’s run are present here and it all works. You can actually see and feel the scope of what he accomplished overall on that last page. It certainly had impact.

Having Howard Porter draw this last story is really perfect. It is a wonderful ending for this run that I have enjoyed so much. I will say once more that I will really miss Williamson writing this book. He did a quality job month in and month out. It is a commendable achievement what he accomplished here.

Congratulations, Joshua Williamson. You turned this cynical person into a kid again.

RATING: A+
