I will come right out and say that I am not that big of a fan of the Hill House imprint over at DC. I respect the work Joe Hill does and his fans but it just isn’t for me.
That being said, I actually do kind of enjoy this title.
That is because Mike Carey is a solid writer and Peter Gross is an excellent artist. Put these two creators together and you get a really decent book.
One time when she was little, Alice followed her dollhouse’s demands. But when she did, it tore apart her life.
But this did not satisfy this crazy dollhouse.
Apparently, there is a part of what was asked that she didn’t completed. And this ticked the dollhouse right off.
And that is where we find ourselves at the start of the issue. It is now the late 1990s and Alice is now in London trying to go about her life. She meets a guy at a club. She gets pregnant. It is at that point Alice becomes a single mother.
She then tries to find some balance in her life. But it isn’t long before that insidious and evil dollhouse starts coming after her.
Every scene in this book is oozing with terror. We get to see some of the machinations behind the scenes of people who want an evil plan to happen. It all leads to a great cliffhanger that made me want to see what happens next right away.
The story is well handled. And while I mentioned artist Peter Gross before as being an excellent artist, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention inker Vince Locke. His inks are distinctive and really round out this book well.
