This book has been a blend of traditional Batman adventure mixed in with some heavy psychological fare.
It is an inter combination and the team of writer Warren Ellis and artist Bryan Hitch do extremely well with it. It moves along at a brisk pace and, while it is not as deep as it wants you to believe it is, it is entertaining nonetheless.
The book starts off with Bruce putting on the Batman suit. He then goes on a ride in the Batmobile. He is looking for any clues about the super soldiers he had found out about. He has a conversation with Alfred. And that is when a huge, crazy fight happens.
And it is a huge fight. I mean, it goes on for pretty much the entire issue. It is very well choreographed by artist Bryan Hitch who is a master at these kinds of things.
Basically, he shows off with his art the entire issue. It is a pretty glorious fight too, and really a blast to look at.
After this fight, Batman has a talk with Dr. Helfern. It is a brief talk that gives us a bit more plot. By the end of the issue, Bruce has a meeting with Alfred. And that is pretty much all that happens.
This chapter and maybe the whole book will be better once it is collected. Even so, it is an enjoyable and well illustrated chapter. It just goes by a little fast. I barely opened up the comic and it was over. I will still read the next issue, of course.
Hopefully, it takes longer to read than five minutes, like this one did.
