‘Teen Titans: Beast Boy’ (review)

Written by Kami Garcia
Art by Gabriel Picolo
Published by DC Ink

I have really been loving these DC Ink books.

They take characters that we have known forever and they put a fresh spin on them. This time the focus is on Garfield Logan otherwise known as Beast Boy. I have to say I thought this was a well done story, overall.

This story is an origin story for Beast Boy.

When we first see Gar, we see him looking over his “senior year bucket list” for high school. Gar is sad that he hasn’t done much that was on the list. This year was supposed to be different after all.

Gar isn’t happy with his life at this point.

That is when things start to change.

At first, we get to see simple things like Gar getting his neighbor’s cat out of a tree. Then, he goes to hang out with his friend, Stella. They talk and play a video game. After that, we get to see some really big changes happen to Gar.

Eventually, we get to meet Gar’s other friend, Tank.

Tank and Stella are really well developed characters. It is great when Gar starts experiencing his new powers how they are there for him.

Gar accepts a crazy dare from a few students and that is when his powers really make an appearance. It is great how the creative team flesh the story out from here.

Kami Garcia does another fine job writing this book. Garcia does very well when writing a DC Ink book and this is no exception. The art by Gabriel Picolo is great as well. It really brings the story and characters to life.

This is a fine book and it is definitely one of the strongest ones DC Ink has put out thus far.

RATING: A
