‘Tales From The Dark Multiverse: Blackest Night #1’ (review)

The Dark Multiverse titles have been a bit of dark fun thus far. They take a familiar event and then they spin it into something quite dark and brutal. This time the series focuses on something that was dark to begin with: It is the Green Lantern storyline, Blackest Night.

The beginning of the book shows Sinestro becoming the Limbo Lantern! He goes through all the steps of the Blackest Night, but at the end things take a real dark turn.

Now, Sinestro is caught between being a White and Black Lantern. The emotion and anguish that Sinestro is feeling is drawn very well by artist Hotz. It is dirty, grimy and pretty perfect.

Sinestro has been tapped to save the universe. He joins up with Lobo and Dove at first on his journey. They eventually land on Apokolips and come up against Granny Goodness.

Apokolips has also been affected by the Blackest Night, becoming an even more scary and gruesome place than it normally is.

Eventually, they come across Mister Miracle and he joins their plight. The four of them come up with a plan. They eventually implement it and go off into the universe. But that is when more trouble comes forth. It gets pretty damn exciting from there.

They come up against dark characters that are affected by the Blackest Night. We get to see the likes of Hal Jordan and Darkseid. It leads into one big battle. And this is where I have to give the creative team a lot of credit.

They really don’t hold back. Characters die. It gets pretty dark. Kudos to Tim Seeley for really pushing the script. And artist Kyle Hotz only gets better with each project he draws. Worth a look.
