‘Sweet Tooth: The Return #3’ (review)

Written and Illustrated by Jeff Lemire
Published by DC Comics

This is a hell of a revival. It is an engaging, if sometimes confusing story that has a lot on it’s mind. I am enjoying it very much and I am looking forward to seeing where we end up with this. I honestly have no idea where that will be, but I know it is going to be interesting.

The issue starts off with the new Sweet Tooth behind bars with Penny.

It isn’t long before the two of them manage to get free in a completely bizarre way.

Father was the one who told them to go to this cell for a time out, so he is not going to be pleased of their escape. The whole place where the two kids are starts to go a bit crazy.

We get a bit of a revelation in this issue.

The bigger picture of this series starts to really come into focus.

What’s even worse, is that Sweet Tooth and Penny are starting to become more aware of just what Father is doing.

They may have to be the ones to stop him.

But can they? Or will Father be forced to kill the two of them?

He might have to. The two kids even find some of Father’s dark experiments. A lot of questions are raised. And apparently someone named Earl has gotten loose.

Lemire does a great job with all of the story elements. He is an auteur at this point in his career and masterfully creates his narrative with ease. His art is one of a kind too and this is another great chapter in an enthralling series.

RATING: A
