If you aren’t depressed about the state of the world now, Surviving Progress guarantees that you will be by the end of the film.
Based upon the book A Short History Of Progress by Ronald White, the documentary assembles some of the world’s greatest thinkers including Stephen Hawking, Craig Venter, Jane Goodall, Margaret Atwood and David Suzuki, along with dozens of other participants to discuss the evolution of society.
The film argues that as we progress technologically, we are causing irreparable harm to ourselves which will ultimately lead to our destruction. As the film provides glances of the world around us, it slightly becomes a bit overwhelmed, attempting to discuss virtually every angle of our progress with superficial attention.
Ultimately, the message within is eye opening, and whether or not you subscribe to every aspect within, it’s well worth your time and hopefully introduce you to a potentially scary perspective.
