‘Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen  #10’ (review)

Written by Matt Fraction
Art by Steve Lieber
Published by DC Comics

This has been an unexpectedly fun book to read.

I didn’t think that I would take to it like I have. Matt Fraction has written a clever book that is breezy and intelligent. It is also unlike anything out there presently in the comic book marketplace these days.

The first scene of this issue has Jimmy Olsen getting back into the reporting game!

He is on the street trying to interview the villain known as Jix. Jix isn’t having it though and the scene becomes very comical.

From there, Jimmy is called out by a villain. Jimmy talks to the guy and uses a banana peel in a unique way.

We then get a fun scene with Julian Olsen, Jimmy’s brother.

We also get to see a couple of villains meeting up like the Porcadillo and Mister X. There is some sort of strange meeting happening as well.

By the end of the issue, we get to see Jimmy and Julian Olsen meetup. It is awesome in all of it’s crazy, cross-dressing glory. We are left with a wild cliffhanger which seems to be pointing us to some crazy finale coming up.

This is an underrated title. It’s good month in and month out. The stories are sharp and well thought out. Lieber does a great job on the art, too and the whole thing just works. It is nicely done book that deserves all of the kudos that it could possibly get.

RATING: A-
