‘Superman: Son of Kal-El’ (review)

Written by Tom Taylor
Art by John Timms
Published by DC Comics

The first issue of this new ongoing and different Superman book has been very good. I really liked the way they turned Jonathan Kent into the new Superman and the results have been pretty fun thus far.

I am looking forward to where this book might be headed.

Jon is trying to balance being Superman and having a normal life as this issue begins.

It is a new balance for him. He knows his father manages it well so he is trying to find his own pace with things. He is not as successful with it yet.

On top of that, he is headed to college for the first time. He is on campus and there is danger on the horizon. That is when an activist news machine known as the Truth finds out Jon’s identity.

That is when things get complicated for our hero.

There are many nice touches throughout the book. Jon gets his own Fortress of Solitude in this book. It is completely unexpected.

There are a lot of nice touches that make this book completely special.

Tom Taylor writes a great script here as usual. It is sharp and it does take us to some unusual places. The artwork by John Timms is pretty awesome as well. Timms has come into his own as an artist to watch and this is some great work for sure.

Overall, this is an excellent issue of this series.

RATING: A
