‘Suicide Squad #5’ (review)

Written by Tom Taylor
Art by Bruce Redondo
Published by DC Comics

This is another decent issue of the Suicide Squad.

While this isn’t as good as some previous iterations of this title, it is still enjoyable nonetheless. Tom Taylor has a pretty good take on the team and the energetic stories that he is writing are fairly entertaining.

The beginning of this book shows Captain Boomerang in the middle of a fight with the Suicide Squad. They hand him his hat pretty quickly and they are bringing him back to base. Boomerang is unconscious and is in big trouble.

The gang regroups and has a meeting with some obnoxious higher ups. Deadshot doesn’t enjoy being talked down to and starts some conflict.

A huge fight ensues. It becomes really wacky, but it is a good time for sure.

The fight actually takes up the rest of the issue and it does get brutal.

Taylor does a great job of keeping the action flowing as well as the drama. It is truly a nicely handled balancing act. Also, he makes a lot of heads explode and I enjoy that.

Redondo is an excellent choice for artist of the book. The action is clean and exciting. The book leaves us on a cliffhanger and I loved it. I can’t wait to see how the creative team wraps this up. I do wonder what the long term plan is here but for right now, I am loving this take.

RATING: B+
