‘Second Coming: Only Begotten Son #2’ (review)

Written by Mark Russell
Art by Richard Pace
Published by Ahoy Comics

I just love this series. The stories are just smart and inventive and the art is just out of this world. This is an example of how much further comic books can go as a medium. It pushes the form into new places that I haven’t seen before. I admire very much what these creators are doing here.

Jesus is in a bit of trouble.

He has gone wandering around and has ended up at a place called Bible Safari. He takes a bit of an issue with this place. The biggest problem that he has is that they are using his image to make money! This does not sit well with Jesus or his morals.

While all of this is going on, Sunstar gets some rather disturbing news about his foster grandmother on earth.

This cause him stress and it is a lot on him. He also is dealing with being a new father as well. Sunstar is trying to balance it all.

After all of this, Jesus is also forced to make a new choice. He may be taking on a new disciple. This scene is great and shows us a new side of Jesus. There also signs of a bigger plot happening in the background, one that may come into play soon.

The script by Mark Russell is great. He also has a unique stamp on everything he writes. The art by Richard Pace is fantastic as always. This is a book that only gets even deeper, funnier, and more poignant with each issue.

Recommended.
