ROBERT HEGYES (1951-2012)

NJ.com has reported that pop culture and tv icon Robert Hegyes passed away this morning from an apparent heart attack at his home in New Jersey.

Hegyes had a long career in television, which included a number of guest appearances and a regular role on Cagney & Lacey.  His most famous role was as Jewish Puerto-Rican Sweathog Juan Luis Pedro Phillipo de Huevos Epstein on Welcome Back, Kotter.

In addition, Hegyes made several film appearances, commercials and taught the occasional Master’s class at alma mater, Rowan University.

Last year Hegyes reunited with several Kotter cast members at the TV Land Awards.
