R.I.P. Alexander Anderson, ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE creator

Alexander Anderson, who created the cartoon characters Bullwinkle, Rocky The Flying Squirrel, and Dudley Do-Right, has died at age 90.

Anderson came up with The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, a vaudevillian cast of characters and sideshows, after approaching business partner and eventual show producer Jay Ward. But Anderson’s contributions to the character lived in Bill Finger-like obscurity until Anderson won a lawsuit in 1996.
Anderson also worked on Crusader Rabbit, which became the first-ever animated series created specifically for television in 1948.

In honor of Anderson, here’s a collection of opening sequences from the show’s many segments. Notice how much characterization was packed in before the show started a story!
