This book is headed towards the 50th issue and writer Scott Lobdell’s departure from the book. He has had one hell of a run thus far. This issue is pretty cool as well and is a nice chapter in his run. It is good from start to finish.
This issue is one big action scene from the first past to the last!
Basically, Jason is on a tear through Gotham City. We first see him on his motorcycle driving around looking for a fight. He quickly finds one and finds himself up against Duela Dent and the overused Punchline.
Along the way, we get to see Jason flashing back to his time with Bruce. It is bittersweet and it really is poignant. I loved the way this is handled. I almost wish we had more of it.
The creative team seems to be more focused on the action here, however, and there’s plenty of it.
Once the battle begins, it is awesome!
The artist, Brett Booth, really brings an incredible energy to his work usually. Here, he is in overdrive! Things get pretty crazy. There is also something tragic that happens near the end that has pretty big consequences for one character.
Lobdell really brings it home here with Booth. They do one hell of a job on this issue. It is full of action and high on emotion.
Lobdell seems to be wrapping up his run in a classy way, and I hope the next two issues are as good as this one.
