I really enjoyed the first issue of this series and this issue followed suit.
Tom Peyer is one hell of a writer and this series has a really unique concept. I am enjoying this spin on modern superheroes very much. It is well conceived and it is a heck of a lot of fun.
Penultiman is a hero from the future. He gets thrown back to our time to become the greatest superhero of the modern times. He had left his robot double AntePenultiman to take his place. He went back to his hometime just to be rejected again. When he comes back to the present something terrible has occurred.
It turns out his robot double has made a better Penultiman than Penultiman himself.
This leads to a whole mess of ramifications. The conversation between Penultiman and his double at the beginning of this issue is absolutely strange and completely hilarious. The issue only gets better from this point forward as well.
The “insult to injury” theme that this issue puts forth is compelling.
Penultiman is the most rejected hero of all time. This books shows his emotions throughout. He eventually has to figure out a way to come to terms with this. He might not be capable of that.
I really think this is great.
It is funny and entertaining but it also touches on many mental health aspects as well. The art is perfectly suited for this story as well, and this is entirely a good comic book.
I can’t wait to read the next issue.
