‘Nightwing #78’ (review)

Written by Tom Taylor
Art by Bruce Redondo
Published by DC Comics

It is a new era for Nightwing as he gets a damn fine new creative team!

I love it when writer Tom Taylor and artist Bruce Redondo work together. They have created some of the more interesting comic books in recent years. This one looks to be no exception as this is pretty darn great.

When we first see Nightwing in this issue, we see him chasing down a group of hoodlums who are abusing a dog. It is a pretty brutal scene.

Nightwing eventually fights them off and then picks up and takes the dog to safety (while also getting bit himself).

It is a good opening and it shows immediately who Nightwing is.

From there, the creative team settles in and we start to get an idea of the plot.

There is a new mayor in town and they have the last name of Zucco. This is a name from the past for Dick and he wants to look into it.

So he does! He even enlists Batgirl’s help in this investigation.

Then, they actually find something out. It is something that shakes Nightwing right to his very core. From this, things are set up for something really big to happen to Dick Grayson.

Tom Taylor writes a damn fine script here, and it feels like this is something fresh for the character. The art by Bruce Redondo is wonderful as well, and the whole issue just works.

Things might even get more interesting from here. This book certainly has a lot of promise.

RATING: A
