‘Mister Miracle #1: The Source of Freedom’ (review)

Written by Brandon Easton
Art by Fico Ossio
Published by DC Comics

I wasn’t sure how I would feel about a new Mister Miracle series so soon after the last one.

Then I saw it was a series about the Shilo Norman character and not Scott Free and I was ready to give it a chance.

I am glad that I did because there is some great stuff in here for sure.

This is a brand new take on the origin of Shilo Norman. The creative team takes us back to the beginnings of this character. We first see the character at a time in his life that isn’t as good as one would hope.

His Mister Miracle stage show used to be very popular among people, but not anymore.

So yes, Shilo isn’t  in the best of shape when we first see him. He has to pick himself up and go and do what he does best. We get to se how he does that both in his stage life and his adventures in being a superhero. But there is more to this book than just that.

There is also another performer that has come to challenge Shilo.

First, this other performer looks to take on some of Shilio’s business. Then, it seems like they might want more than just that. Things really take off by the end of the issue and it is truly damn exciting.

The story here by Brandon Easton is very good. It is also very different from the normal superhero fare out there. I really enjoyed the artwork by Fico Ossio and found it unique.

I liked this first issue very much and I am interested as to where we are headed from here.

RATING: B+
