Milestone Massacre: A Look at 30 Scary Movies Hitting Major Milestones

Written by Erin Maxwell

In today’s content starved culture of instant feel-good articles and nostalgia quick fixes, nothing says click-bait like a good old article or picture gallery celebrating the birthday of a beloved movie.

Last year was a banner year, as it seemed the Internet was deeming with articles calling out milestones of Back to the Future, The Goonies, The Breakfast Club.

I should know. I wrote half of them.

So it should not surprise you that this is yet another article celebrating the fact that another beloved movie from your childhood is moving into yet another decade, noting the turning time as you slowly grow closer to the shroud.

Yeah, you are as old as fuck. And so are these movies.

That said, the best way to note the passing of time is by what a culture deems as terrifying. Every person can understand drama, and humor can hold its own from decade to decade, but will what scares one generation be considered frightening to the next? Will the movies from 20 years ago, 30 years ago, or even 50 years ago still make us sleep with the hall light on?

Here is a master list of scary slasher and haunting horror movies celebrating milestones this year.

Revisit some of the titles and decide if a wronged telepathic teen on prom night or a slime-dripping alien that uses colonists as Legos can still make you cry out for help.
