The redemption of J’onn J’onnz, Martian Manuhunter, continues this month.
But he’d better hurry, because Charnn is poised to devour the city of Middleton, Colorado.
The fiendish, nightmarish, ex-convict from Mars has found the key to unlocking his genetic template – and the morphogenic powers of the Martian race – in the successful hybridization of Ashley Adams.
That’s not good for Ashley, who now sports a very Martianesque set of big red eyes. But at least she’s not dead.
But for Charnn’s centuries-long quest for freedom is to be realized, he’ll need more material to work with. And that means bodies. Lots and lots of bodies. And that’s very bad for Middleton.
None of this is clear to J’onn J’onnz and his partner detective Diane Meade at the start of the issue, but through another remarkable sequence of psychic forensics, J’onn begins to appreciate the scope of Charnn’s activities here on earth – and the danger his madness still presents.
Once again, master storytellers Steve Orlando and Riley Rossmo turn in a spectacular collaboration, with a tale from Martian Manhunter’s earliest days here on earth. A tale which is to become the catalyst for J’onn to relinquish his anonymity in man’s world, and take his place in the pantheon of earth’s noblest defenders.
It’s a coming out story for the ages, and one that’s nearly to its culmination. But before we can get there, J’onn has one challenge yet before him.
Because Charnn is immensely more powerful than J’onn in his current state. And for that to change J’onn must face his fears, and reclaim himself from the PTSD that losing his home and family to the flames of H’ronmeer’s curse has burned into his psyche.
Good thing he has a partner, tough as nails, to back him up.
