‘Legion of Super-Heroes #9’ (review)

Well, this latest story in this title feels like a big waste of time.

Brian Michael Bendis has written a story with a new artist on every page. Instead of being unique, it ends up grating on your nerves. This issue and the one previous just didn’t work on any level for me.

The United Planets have found the Legion of Super-Heroes guilty of crimes against the galaxy. We get to see the ramifications of that.

What does it mean for the Legion?

Will they have to disband?

Are they going to be considered criminals from now on?

The issue is basically the Legion trying to find ways to prove their innocence. Sadly, things aren’t looking too good. They go from scene to scene trying to piece it all together.

This all leads to a strange ending that made me shake my head.

This book is very tough to get into, almost to the point of being impenetrable. Every page has a new artist. Some of them do a really great job like Gary Frank. But the results are so jolting with each page that it feels overcooked.

The script by Bendis doesn’t help matter. It is really off the mark. I am lost to who the main characters of this book are. I actually wonder if Bendis ever actually read a Legion book before writing this series.

Oh, well. At least the various artwork is nice to look at, even if reading the book is as tough as can be.
