This series has really been a hard one for me.
I love the Legion of Super-Heroes, yet this creative team has been all over the place with book. This issue starts a new storyline so I was hopeful that this may improve things. It seemed unlikely but I was going to give it a shot.
It actually is still a pretty bad story in this issue.
But Bendis has put together such a crazy array of artists here that it is tough not to enjoy at least a little but of the issue. It starts off with Superboy giving a monologue setting the pace for the story.
Almost immediately, the story started to jump around.
The book bounces all the way around the known galaxy.
It goes from the Planetary Orando to Daxam, to New Metropolis. The characters from all these different planets are being in pulled into the main storyline here. It is very hard to tell what that is as Bendis can’t keep the story still for long and it jumps from scene to scene.
Eventually, a big fight erupts. It gets pretty insane, but not as insane as one would hope. The title of the storyline is called “The Trial of The Legion of Super-Heroes.”
I was hoping for something grander than this.
Bendis proves again that he just doesn’t have a handle on the characters. This should feel bigger! Instead, this issue seems to exist so Bendis can show us how many artists he has for friends.
This could have been so cool! Sadly, it is barely memorable ten minutes after reading it.
