Kevin Smith’s BIONIC MAN Comic Is Coming Wednesday, But It’s Old News

Steve Austin is back and acclaimed film maker Kevin Smith unleashes his high octane vision in this new series from Dynamite. Featuring 28 pages of story/art in an action-packed first issue! Kevin Smith is joined by Phil Hester, artist Jonathan Lau, and cover artist/character designer Alex Ross (the team who brought you The MAIN Green Hornet series), Smith unleashes Bionic Man into the 21st century as only he can.

The only thing is that this isn’t based on either Martin Caidin’s original novel, Cyborg or the Six Million Dollar Man television series, but rather Smith’s unproduced screenplay that he wrote back in 1996.

But, savvy internet readers know that Smith loves nothing more than handing his audience the same rehashed ideas again and again.  I used to be a big fan of his work, but as time has gone on, it became tiresome to watch a decent writer fall into a rut that they never came out of.  His Six Million Dollar Man screenplay is representative of one of the work for hire gigs that Smith took that he genuinely enjoyed writing (at least he doesn’t badmouth it), it is an entertaining read.
