Jon Hamm is Your New ‘Fletch’

For a few decades, Hollywood has been trying to reboot author Gregory Mcdonald’s “Fletch” character, following two films starring Chevy Chase.

First Kevin Smith attempted to make a third film with Chase, which eventually led to a potential adaptation of the author’s Fletch, Won which would feature Chase framing the investigative reporter’s first adventure and would star either Jason Lee or Ben Affleck and later, Brad Pitt, Jimmy Fallon, and Zach Braff.  Smith left the project and Braff stayed aboard with the creative reigns going to Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence.  Lawrence and Braff later left the project and Steve Pink was set in the director’s chair.  Eventually, Pink departed the project and Horrible Bosses star Jason Sudeikis signed on to play the role in 2014.  Once again, nothing came of that version.

Today, The Wrap announced that Jon Hamm would produce and star in an adaptation of the second book in the series, Confess, Fletch for Miramax.

In a mysterious chain of wild events, Fletch finds himself in the middle of multiple murders – one of which pins him as a prime suspect. While on a quest to prove his innocence, Fletch is tasked with finding his fiancée’s stolen art collection, the only inheritance she’s acquired after her father goes missing and is presumed dead.

Confess, Fletch will be directed by Greg Mottola from a script by writer Zev Borow. Hamm and Connie Tavel are producing, and David List is an executive producer.
