‘Joker/ Harley: Criminal Sanity #5’ (review)

Written by Kami Garcia
Art by Mico Suayan and Jason Badower
Published by DC Comics

I really thought that this series started out great and then got bogged down in heavy scripting.

The artwork has always been tops on this book, however, it really feels like a letdown as a whole. I feel like this whole thing could have been resolved in three regular sized issues but now it is completely dragging.

This book focuses on Dr. Harley Quinn trying to track down a serial killer. We get to see some of the methods she uses. Things start to feel like they aren’t going so good.

That is when Harley goes up against the killer by herself!

The killer confronts her and it is a decent enough scene.

This encounter is “life altering” for sure but then Harley’s life changes. We get to see some of those changes here. It isn’t a pretty sight and to be honest the story does go off the rails a bit at this point.

We also get to see the Joker and we get to see some of his plans.

Honestly, I am not feeling this version of the Joker. Garcia doesn’t really have a good take on the character. He isn’t very well defined in this series.

I wish this book had more to it. I feel like I should be liking this book more than I currently am. The art is really gorgeous but there is no story m behind it that is compelling to me.

Hopefully it picks up but right now the whole thing is coming across as bland.

RATING: C
