‘John Constantine: Hellblazer #8’ (review)

Written by Simon Spurrier
Art by Aaron Campbell
Published by DC Comics

This book really does represent the character of John Constantine the way that he is supposed to be. It also gives us a perfect view of the world he lives in as well.

The creative people behind it really have done an amazing job of bringing this title where it should be.

The opening scene has John Constantine by the water.

A woman is in the water. She asks Constantine if she is going to die and he tells her yes. It is an eerie scene to begin the book on and it only gets better from there.

This woman is a water siren.

There are fishermen who are in danger from her. She is going to kill them all.

Can Constantine stop her from doing this? Or will she kill them all and Constantine too in the process?

The issue is basically a conversation between Constantine and the siren.

We do get a lot of back story here. All of it is very interesting. This all leads into the siren’s fate and it is quite an ending. It is very focused and very engaging.

Spurrier writes a great script that is worth reading twice just to get all the details. The art by Aaron Campbell is some of the best I have ever seen on this character. It is fantastic and deserves all the praise I can give it. Well done indeed.

RATING: A
