This is a great title that will sadly be ending soon.
The stories have been really strong with this and it has been pretty intriguing, issue in and issue out. It has been the version of the Constantine character that I love: Dark, gritty, funny.
I am sad to see it go.
At the start of this issue, John Constantine is woken up by a phone call in the middle of the night.
The phone call is from a gentleman named Clement Thurso. Constantine tells him that he caught him in the middle of a meeting. He hangs up the phone there is someone in a creepy mask sitting in his bedroom.
The man takes off his mask.
Constantine asks who he is. We learn that the man in the mask is an older Constantine. He basically reminds the younger version of himself that he made a deal with someone.
He is informed of the details of that deal. He is also informed of what it means for his life now.
The rest of the issue asks a lot of questions and answers some of them.
Can the younger Constantine get out of this deal?
Is everything predetermined?
What will happen to him?
It is an exciting issue with a lot on it’s mind.
The story is great. It is emotional and smart and really well written. The art is pretty great too. It seems a bit influenced by artist Greg Capullo but I am okay with it.
Overall, this is a great issue on a superb series. I am sorry to see it go.
