Joe Simon has passed away at age 98.

Simon, who co-created Captain America with Jack Kirby in 1941, had a long and influential career in comics, serving as the first editor for Timely (later Marvel) Comics, and running his own studio for many years with Kirby.  Simon created or co-created such characters as Brother Power The Geek, The Green Team: Boy Millionaires, Blue Bolt, Fighting American, The Fly, Boy’s Ranch, Newsboy Legion, Boy Commandos, and Manhunter.

He is also the author of two books, The Comic Book Makers and My Life in Comics.

Mr. Simon is remembered not only for being one of the most influential contributors to comics and pop culture, but also as being a mensch and a gentleman.
