While most people know the names of Frank Oz and Jim Henson, there happened to be another dude who was part of the originating team behind Sesame Street (he created The Count and Snuffleupagus), The Muppet Show (Floyd Pepper, Dr. Julius Strangepork) and Fraggle Rock (Gobo Fraggle), Mr Jerry Nelson.
Nelson, who had worked with Henson from the 60s until his death in 1990, spent four decades puppeteering and doing voice work for various Muppet shows and movies before succumbing to a lengthy illness on August 23rd.
He will be remembered by Muppet fans for the huge amount of Muppet characters he portrayed- which run in the hundreds- (click HERE for a complete list) as well as for his booming announcer voice that introduced a good deal of skits (Pigs In Space, Veterinarian’s Hospital and Bear on Patrol) and for his awesome music ability that kept The Muppet Show so cool:
Rest in Peace Jerry and if you see Jim, say hi for me.
