IN DEFENSE OF
Delusional Celebs I Like,
But Have Trouble Respecting

My guilty pleasures of pop culture aren’t just devoted to bad movies and television series. I very often find myself defending musicians, comedians, movie stars and self-proclaimed auteurs.
Here are just a hand full…

Pat Boone

LIKE: I’m a sucker for 50s revisionist Americana.

HATE: His crazy right-wing politics and religious bull-crap.

Mickey Rooney

LIKE: He starred in Pete’s Dragon and Silent Night, Deadly Night 5.

HATE: His arsenal of racist on-screen characters.

Eli Roth

LIKE: He’s a horror geek that knows his stuff, and perfectly cast in Inglorious Bastards.

HATE: He talks up his movies as if they’re groundbreaking, let alone good.

Roman Polanski
Woody Allen
Lars von Trier

LIKE: Three of the greatest still-living filmmakers still around.

HATE: Hearing about their bizarre personal lives & beliefs.

Tom Cruise
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Mel Gibson

LIKE: Three of the greatest still-living movie-stars.

HATE: Hearing about their bizarre personal lives & beliefs.

Gary Busey

LIKE: He’s one crazy motherf**ker.

HATE: He may possibly be under my bed holding a butcher knife. No seriously, check for me.

Larry the Cable Guy

LIKE: The best guilty-pleasure low-brow comedian since Benny Hill.

HATE: The most disturbing fabricated comedian (including his accent) since Bobcat Goldthwait.

Leonardo DiCaprio

LIKE: The dude has presence and has turned in some good performances.

HATE: All his roles make me wonder if the movie would have been better with another actor.

Justin Bieber

LIKE: A great success story, with an obvious sense of humor (check out his Funny or Die vids).

HATE: He’s no Greyson Chance.
