A medical student interviews a paranormal investigator for a thesis and is lucky enough to join the investigator as she investigates a possible haunting.
What the two first suspect to be a hoax soon reveals itself to be a serious case of demonic possession and the pair realize that if they don’t help the victim then they too will be targeted by the demon.
Director David Spaltro has crafted a solid indie possession flick with a few good scares and lots of creepy atmosphere.
The acting is handled well all around and while the script brings nothing new to the subgenre it uses a mix of references, inspirations, and homage’s to possession and haunting films of the past.
In The Dark also looks good in the dark as it was photographed very well and has a slick professional look missing from many indie films as well as some studio pictures these days.
The one unique aspect that In The Dark brings to the sub genre is that all of the central characters in this film are women, and women of varying ages at that. Although it is a disappointing state of affairs for the film industry in general that this is a unique aspect, but it is refreshing to see.
Over all In The Dark is worth a watch and will appeal to both die-hard horror fans as well as the average viewer looking for a quick scare.
