‘Hey Kids! Comics! Vol 2: Prophets & Loss #4’ (review)

Written and Illustrated by Howard Chaykin
Published by Image Comics

Howard Chaykin has really done it again. This book here is really quite excellent and it shows off some really excellent storytelling. I love where Chaykin is taking us and this whole book has been nothing but a great ride from the very start.

This issue is quite excellent as well.

The comic industry is shown to be changing at quite a rapid pace as this issue begins. The old quaint comic books are now making way for something quite different. Something quite darker.

Comic books are shown to be “growing up” as this issue carries on. That means darker material. It also means more adult material is making it’s way into the comic book marketplace. It really parallels the real world quite well.

We also get to see the changing of the guard at various comic book companies.

The people who were once in charge are now left in the dust for the newest hot talent. There is a lot of craziness and a lot of truth that this series brings forth.

Howard Chaykin has never been one to shy away from any kind of subject matter. He certainly doesn’t here. He is at the top of his game with this series with both writing and artwork.

This is a perfect issue to show what happened to the comic book industry we all used to love.

RATING: A
