One of the nicer surprises of the Future State line of books was the Harley Quinn book written by Stephanie Phillips. I loved the way that Phillips handled the character during it, which is still a bit wacky but more grounded. This series plays the character of Harley Quinn much more in that vein.
This issue picks up after the Joker War.
Harley Quinn has decided to come back to Gotham City and make it her home once again. The previous events were rather tough on Harley, and she decides to do something that she really hasn’t done too much of up until now.
Harley decides that it is time to get Gotham on the right track again.
She decides that it is time to help out and turn the city around. So she goes about doing exactly that.
The problem is that there are forces at work that might get in the way of her changed way of life!
As always with Harley, things get crazy quickly. But I honestly didn’t mind at all. Harley sometimes gets annoying really fast but Phillips has found a good balance on this book and it weirdly works well.
I found myself enjoying the entire thing.
Anytime Riley Rossmo draws a book, I am there for it. Rossmo does a superb job illustrating this comic and he immediately has a good flair for all of the characters here.
This is a good first issue of this new series. Let’s hope that they can keep the quality this high for future issues!
