‘Geiger #1’ (review)

Written by Geoff Johns
Art by Gary Frank, Brad Anderson
Published by Image Comics

Writer Geoff Johns and artist Gary Frank make for one hell of a creative team.

Their combined work has been great for many years at this point. So, when the two of them get together for a new property all together I am immediately drawn into it. It is the first time I have seen them do creator owned work.

The premise is immediately exciting.

The Earth has been wrecked due to a nuclear war.

We get to see some of the destruction as the book opens. Gary Frank’s artwork shows us the landscape of the world at this point and it is certainly horrifying to take a look at.

In the midst of all of this, we are introduced to our main character named Geiger.

He is one of those mysterious types of characters with a past that we can only guess at. The people who lived in this world are extremely scared of him. He is something of an urban myth.

Some people call him Joe Glow and others call him The Meltdown Man. But Geiger is neither of those things.

Amongst all of the outlaws fighting in this desperate wasteland, Geiger is something completely different. We get to see a bit of what that might be as the issue progresses. He is a person, against all odd, that is just trying to protect his family.

Man, the two creators do a great job on this book. Let me be clear that is nothing like anything that they have either done before. But it is great and it is high quality.

The story and art are both fantastic and I can’t wait to see where this goes.

RATING: A
