‘Future State: The Next Batman #4’ (review)

Published by DC Comics

I have really enjoyed this new take on the Batman mythos.

Writer John Ridley has done a great job of taking his concept and  running away with it. The stories in this comic have been smart and action packed. The best part though is the characterizations of the cast, which are all great.

This book begins with the next Batman ready to go head to head with the Magistrate.

All of the previous issues have led up to this. Can Batman defeat them?

It is looking like he is up to the challenge.  Yet, there is a little bit of a twist to this exciting story.

The people that Batman is defending may actually be criminals. What is going on here?

All of this leads to one of the best battles in the Future State series thus far. It is action packed and really did have me at the edge of my seat.

Writer John Ridley has done a great job on this book giving us a story that matters. He also gives us characters that matter as well. The art by Laura Braga is outstanding for this book. I hope that they reunite for future tales with this set of characters.

There are two backup stories here.

Sadly, the two of them aren’t very good. The “Batgirls” story is pretty forgettable. Then there is the “Gotham City Sirens” story that just did not work for me at all. The lead story is great though and the book is worth it because of that.

RATING: A
