The Future State titles have been creating some interesting scenarios. I have been enjoying their ability to bring a bit of fresh air to the normal proceedings.
This comic is one of my favorites as it gives Jon Kent a chance at being Superman.
It is also action packed and crazy.
There is a villain called Braincells at the heart of this book.
Braincells is an offshoot of Brainiac in this futuristic setting.
This Superman begins the issue fighting against Braincells. The villain is trying to lead Jon down the wrong path and things get pretty harrowing.
Most of the story is taken up by Jon fighting this crazy villain. We also get to see Supergirl as she has a part to play in this as well. It all leads to a decent ending that happens a bit too quickly for men.
This is such a well realized world that this could have gone on longer.
That all being said, this story is plenty good. Sean Lewis writes a great script and John Timms does a hell of a job on the artwork. Timms is only getting better with each new book he draws. I enjoyed the main story very much.
We also get a pair of decent backups in this issue. The first is a continuation of a Mister Miracle storyline and this is the second part. It’s decent. There is also a Guardian story by writer Sean Lewis with art by Cully Hamner which is honestly pretty great and I enjoyed it very much.
