I am loving a lot of the Future State titles. This is one, however, that I did not.
I love the concept of the Suicide Squad in general and this takes that concept and drags it through the mud a few times. It is pretty rough.
We are introduced to the new Suicide Squad by the end of the issue. Most of the issue features the Justice League and the heroes involved with that team. We get to see them dispensing justice and doing their thing.
Yet, they come across Amanda Waller.
Waller is tired of the way things have been. She wants to remake the world in her image and we see her trying to do that. But then, the twist comes in!
Task Force X comes to see if they can stop Waller!
And that is where we end up. The writing by Robbie Thompson is flat. The art by Javier Fernandez rocks though, and so that is the best part of this comic. Otherwise, it’s pretty bad.
As bad as it is, the Black Adam backup story is even worse. It is written with no flair whatsoever by Jeremy Adams and Illustrated capably by Fernando Pasarin.
Both stories could have been better and it stinks that they weren’t.
