‘Freedom Fighters #2’ (review)

Written by Robert Vendetti
Illustrated by Eddy Barrows,
Eber Ferreira and Adriano Lucas

There is a Crisis on Earth-X in the form of Nazis being in control for over 50 years!

Once again, The Freedom Fighters: Doll Girl, Black Condor, Phantom Lady and Human Bomb are there to offer up the resistance and set an example to the rest of the country!

In this alternate future (actually a separate world called Earth-X, and more like the present day), Nazi Germany has conquered the planet and there ain’t nothing anyone can do about it, until the Freedom Fighters take on Sentinel-sized Hitler robots with the same techniques you may see practiced in The Danger Room.

I’m opening up myself for the obvious cross-company cross-talk here but hey, if the costume fits! This story can sit easily next to Days of Future Past on my shelf and we are only two issues in to the 12 issue maxi-series.

Swastikas are nowhere to be found, but luckily we have a villain ready for one of these Freedom Fighters to punch down on when the time comes. The Führer is son of Hitler, with the boring name of Adolf Hitler II.

With some bombing and portal jumping, our heroes are meant to take out these behemoth machinations and we do get some classic lines like “We’re coming for you, RATZI.” and more.

Its always fun to see the SS get owned by artillery or verbal abuse and we get plenty of that here in issue #2.

We get the impression that there is a resistance on Earth-X and after winning this battle, The Freedom Fighters are quickly inspiring legions of fans to stand up to the Ratzi bastards. Our team better be on their best game because not only is Hitler, Jr. pissed, but so is the Axis power Plastic Man, ready to stretch his way to world domination. We don’t see much of Nazi Plas this issue but have a feeling he will play a major part in this run.

I’m here for the rest of the ride with Freedom Fighters, hoping that their inspiration to stand up against fascism spreads far and wide from Earth-X to home here on the enemy lines, on the week we celebrate the life and teachings of Martin Luther King, Jr.
