Charles Soule and Ryan Browne had a really great run on the title Curse Words. After that book, they could truly do no wrong. It is great to see that they are continuing to collaborate as this book is truly exceptional. It is funny, inventive, and all together nuts. I love the way they tell the story and I especially enjoy the extreme twists and turns that the crazy narrative swings around.
This book starts off in a bar.
We get to meet some of the characters that make up the book.
Suddenly, every person on earth is given their own genie.
With their genie, they all get one wish. What can possibly go wrong?
Well, we quickly see exactly what does go wrong and the reasons why.
The biggest problem? Most people are idiots.
So, we get to see the stupid wishes that people make. Some are downright hilarious.
My favorite is that two people on Earth wished for Mount Doom. It does get pretty crazy as the wishes happen. People start dying. Yet the wishes just get crazier and crazier as people want to be superheroes or supervillains and it doesn’t let up.
As these wishes keep going, the world starts changing as a result. We first get to see what it is like after 8 days. Then 8 weeks. Then 8 years and so on and so forth. The world goes beyond post apocalyptic and it is a lot of fun and very relevant. It is also very scary as each story element is both funny and feels just honest.
The writing is wonderful. It is funny, wacky, and the characters are pretty fantastic. The artwork by Ryan Browne is amazing. He just keeps getting better and better and this is his best work yet.
Overall, this is a topnotch book by an A list team. I cannot wait to see what they decide to do next.
